How Does Young Generation Work?
Every year Young Generation stage two shows, one in the Civic Theatre and the other in the Cramphorn Theatre both in Chelmsford.
Once it has been decided which show to do there will be a number of music calls to familiarise yourself with the music. Audition pieces will be given to those who wish to “go” for a part.
Auditions take place in front of an audition panel. This panel is usually made up of the production team that will be involved in the putting the show together, the Director, music director, production assistant and dance captain. These are all people associated with the society and many you will know from HQ.
When auditioning for a part the audition will be “closed”, i.e. you will go in to the hall on your own and someone there will read any other dialogue required for your piece.
If you are auditioning for ensemble you will probably audition in small groups.
The audition panel make their casting decisions and you are notified by telephone, usually on the same day.
The society does its best to select shows that can accommodate as many members as they can, however it is possible that you may not get the part you auditioned for or a place in the ensemble. If this is the case you will still be a member, get newsletters and come along to any workshops the society arranges.
